Jonathan Sonier
/
Originally from Moncton, New Brunswick, Jonathan Sonier is a French-speaking singer-songwriter. He navigates between folk and pop, offering songs that oscillate between a soft atmosphere, carried by a picking guitar, and an electric energy energized by the synthesizer. With melodies sharpened by his musical experiences and a pen honed by long hours of driving, Jonathan offers songs that are rich in their simplicity, honest in their lies, with a precision that could be cut with a knife.
He first worked as a sound designer in theatre and as a musician for several pop and folk artists in Quebec. He notably played with Cassandre, Bleu Kérosène (La chaleur - 2020) and Charles-Auguste (Les miettes - 2018 and Du côté du lac - 2021).
After a 6-year stay in Quebec City, he returned to his hometown of Moncton in 2019. In 2020, he made the leap as a singer-songwriter by releasing Bateau de verre d'eau, his very first folk-style EP. In November 2021, he released his second EP Mémoire musculaire. In 2024, the latest album 'Fond d'écran' features a mix of synthesizers and guitars, with thoughtful lyrics and modern percussion that gives the songs momentum.
